His wife was the daughter of Henry de Graff (brother to the duke of Neuweid). [uh huh] Henry de Graff came direct from a German University "as early as 1631," and purchased several acres of land at or near the site of the present village of Flemington, N.J. The Graffs were Lutherans in Germany. ... Charles Lupp, his sister Mary Lupp Langstroth, and her daughter Caroline, with others of the family, now rest beneath the First Presbyterian Church at Williamsville, N.J. The family, having removed to Trenton, sent $50.00 for a memorial tablet, but, instead, a memorial stone was set in the outside wall of the church which was built over the burial plot. Mary Lupp and Thomas Langstroth's residence was known in the palmy [?] days as "Williams Hall." Mary and Thomas lived for some time in Pa. and at Trenton, where at least six of their children were born. Omer Loop's records: children of Lawrence K. Williams, 1949: John Lupp, working 1782-1805, born October 14, 1734, died October 6, 1805. The Family Bible of John Lupp, in the Rutgers University, contains the record of his marriage to Anna Maria Graff, of Amwell, Hunterdon County, on January 21, 1766. The exact time of his removal to New Brunswick has not been learned, but according to local probate records, he was there in 1782. He lived in Somerset County during 1776-7, and claimed the British destroyed property belonging to him valued at £313.15.6. John Lupp was also a clockmaker, He was succeeded in 1805 by his son William, who had been active as a silversmith since 1790. To William Lupp he willed his tools, shop furniture and shop time piece. No silver has been identified as the work of John Lupp. The inventory of his personal estate, dated October 16, 1805, and taken by James Chapman and James B. Voorhees, lists tools, watch and clock parts, but no silver for the trade. His personal plate comprised: 1 Silver Tankard - 32 1/2 oz.....$40.62 1/2 1 Sugar dish - 13 1/2 do ........ 16.88 1/2 1 Cream pot - 6 oz. scant........ 7.40 1 soup Spoon and 5 Table Spoons - 14 1/2 oz....... 16.31 6 Tea do 1 Tea tongs...................... 5.62 6 table spoons, 6 tea spoons. 1 Cream pot...................... 22.00 Charles Lupp: working 1810-1825, born September 10, 1788, died November 23, 1825. Charles Lupp was associated with his brother, William, and is not believed to have had his own shop. While he doubtless had a practical knowledge of silversmithing, entries in the account books of his brother show that his time was largely spent in taking orders and selling. Charles Lupp boarded with his brother and there were times when he probably took a hand in the great variety of work done in William's shop. Lawrence K. Lupp: working 1804, born August 16, 1783. William Lupp recorded in his account book that "Lawrence Began his board with me the Tenth Feb'y (1805)." This entry continues with the items: "Dr. to five dollars advanced him," and "Cr. by 1/2 doz. tea Spoons Making £0.12.0." Lawrence Lupp was employed as a journeyman by his brother for a little more than a year, and then announced to the residents of New Brunswick that he was ready to serve them in his own shop. His advertisement in the Guardian, or New-Brunswick Advertiser, May 1, 1806, states that Lawrence K. Lupp, Gold Smith and Jeweller, was located "Opposite the Post Office, New Brunswick," fig. 23a. Teaspoons showing two varieties of his mark have been seen by the writer... Military records: Charles Lupp, private in Capt. Ephraim G. MacKay's company of riflemen, 3rd Reg.
