On 9 May 1821, Philyer Loop forms a partnership with his son Joseph B. Loop, under the firm name and style of "P. LOOP & Son." History of Franklin and Grand Isle Counties, VT, 1891, p. 221: Philyer Loop, the third in the succession of chief judges, first went on the bench in 1814, in the capacity of assistant judge, and succeeded to the chief position in 1815, serving only one year. In 1810, Mr. Loop represented Alburgh in the General Assembly. Hemenway's Historical Gazette of VT, Vol 2, p. 503: The merchants of the earlier day were, Philyer Loop, on the province [i.e., Ontario] line at West Alburgh, Scott Bros, on the west shore, and R & A Ransom, at the center. His estate in Alburgh at his death was inventoried at $18,196.04 and his estate "in the Store North of the Canadian Line" inventoried at $21,331.79 - the richest man in Alburgh in 1822. He at one time owned and kept the Hotel now kept by R. F. Cowan at Middle Falls, and sold the same to Robert Hamilton, and removed with his family to Troy over twenty years ago, where he has since resided. He is survived by his two sons George and Bailey.
