Loop who served ... as a Privat in the company commanded by John H. Winder, G Co, in the 1st Regiment of U.S. Artillery, commanded by Bvt Col Thomas Childs in the war with Mexico; that I enlisted at Utica, New York on or about the 1st of January, 1847 for the term of 5 years and was honorably discharged at New York City on or about November or December, 1848. ... service was as follows: I was sent with a detachment of recruits to Mexico and joined my Company at Vera Cruz and served with it until the close of the war and partook in the campaign terminating in the capture of teh City of Mexico. That I am 57 years of age, having been born at Alburgh, Vermont on the 22nd day of November, 1829. That I am disabled by reason of loss of left eye which said disability was not incurred while i any manner voluntarily engaged in aiding or abetting the late rebellion against the authority of the United States but that said disability was incurred at Craftsbury, Vermont, previous to the war of the rebellion, dat not recollected, in manner as follows, viz by reason of a kick in the face by a vicious horse which completely and totally destroyed sight from my left eye and which of late has affected the other quite seriously. That I am married, that the maiden name of my wife was Harriet N. Redman, to whom I was married at San Francisco in the state of California on the 22 October 1857 that my wife is now living. That in support and proof of my right to pension I tender herewith, under the regulations prescribed by the Secretary of the Interior, the following evidence: The proofs on file with my application for Bounty Land, a warrant for which I received and disposed of. That since my discharge from said service I have resided as follows, to wit: In the states of Vermont, New York and California and continuously in San Francisco for the past 25 years.
