CHAPTER 18 -- John Lawrence Loop

John Lawrence LOOP [notes] [Martin(6), Henry(5), Christian(4), Jacob(3), Sebastian(2), Anthony(1)] was the eighth child of Martin LOOP and Mary HULL. He was born September 22, 1795, in Fairfield (now Lake Luzerne) Washington County, New York. He moved with his parents to Oneida County between 1800 and 1810. About 1816, in Solon, Cortland County, New York, he married his first wife Mary Anna WARD. She was born August 30, 1797 in New York State, the daughter of David WARD and Violetta GILLET. They are censused in Solon in 1820 and 1830. They were still in Solon in 1835. In 1839, however, John Loop "of Cattaraugus county" bought land in Cattaraugus County, implying they had already moved there. They are censused there in 1840. In 1845, John and Anna Loop of Dayton, Cattaraugus County bought more land in the county. Shortly thereafter they moved to Wisconsin where Mary Anna died June 19, 1845. In 1850 John Loop is censused in the town of Hubbard, Dodge County, Wisconsin, his younger children living with him and his sons Asahel and David living next door with their families. On November 24, 1853, John married his second wife, Naomi, who was the widow of a man named BARLOW. She was b. abt. 1815, in Vermont. They were married in Rubicon, Dodge County, Wisconsin. In 1857, "John Loop and his wife Anna of Wheatland, Kenosha County, Wisconsin" sell land in Dayton, Cattaraugus County, New York, to their son Asahel Loop and his wife Cordelia. This was either an error or a legal shortcut, as Anna had been dead for over ten years at that time. John and Naomi moved to Richardson County, Nebraska, between 1857 and 1860. In 1870 they were living with her son Royal BARLOW in Richardson County, Nebraska. Naomi probably died before 1880 when John is a widower living with his son Truman Ellis LOOP in Rushford, Winnebago County, Wisconson. John died July 19, 1883, in Eureka, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, probably while living with his son Truman Ellis Loop. He and Mary Anna are buried in Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, Winnebago County, Wisconsin.

By 1849 they had moved to Hubbard, Dodge County, Wisconsin, and were living next door to Asahel's father and brother. They were all farmers.
