CHAPTER 25 -- Henry Loop of Westmoreland County, PA

Henry LOOP [notes] [ ] was born about 1786 somewhere in Germany. He immigrated to the United States about 1818, settling in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He married Martha, surname unknown. She was born near May 9, 1791 (calculated), in Germany. He died January 14, 1832, aged 46, and is buried in Seanor's (Lutheran and Reformed) Cemetery, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. His widow died of a stroke February 4, 1860, aged 68 years, 8 months, and 26 days. She is buried in the Sewickley Presbyterian Cemetery, Sewickley Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

+        2.  William LOOP, b. about 1818 in Germany, m. Mary Anne, surname unknown. She was b. about 1825 in PA. He was a papermaker in the 1850 census living in Sewickley Township, Westmoreland County, PA. They had children:

a.    Melissa Jane LOOP, b. about 1843, in PA.

b.    Josephine LOOP, b. about 1845, in PA.

c.    William Harrison LOOP, b. about 1848, in PA.

d.   Adaline LOOP, b. about August, 1850, in PA.

e.    Margaret LOOP, b. about 1852, in PA.

f.     Winfield S. LOOP, b. about 1853, in PA.

g.    John LOOP, b. about 1854, in PA.

h.    Georgiana LOOP, b. about 1858, in PA.

+        3.  Henry LOOP, b. February 10, 1820, in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, PA, m. Elizabeth COUCHENOUR. She was b. September 25, 1824, in VA. She d. February 10, 1890. He d. October 24, 1899. Both are buried in the Sewickley Presbyterian Cemetery, Sewickley Township, Westmoreland County, PA.

+        4.  Mary Ann LOOP, b. April 3, 1820 (calculated), d. December 3, 1833, buried in the Sewickley Presbyterian Cemetery, Sewickley Township, Westmoreland County, PA.

Henry LOOP [notes] [Henry(1)] the third child of Henry LOOP and Martha, was born February 10, 1820, in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, PA. He married Elizabeth COUCHENOUR. She was born September 14, 1824, in Virginia. He worked in the paper mill of C. P. Markle & Sons, in Mill Grove. After many years at this work, he left and took up farming. His wife died February 10, 1890. He farmed in North Huntington Township from about 1877 to 1892, when he retired and moved in with his children. He died October 24, 1899 and is buried in the Sewickley Presbyterian Cemetery, Sewickley Township, Westmoreland County, PA. The children of Henry LOOP, Jr., and ELizabeth COUCHENOUR were:

+        1.  Martha Elizabeth LOOP, b. April 9, 1843 in PA, m. Thomas C. WILSON. She d. August 9, 1928, in Sutersville, Westmoreland County, PA. She is buried with her sister Martha in West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, Westmoreland County, PA.

+        2.  Mary Jane LOOP, b. about 1845 in PA.

+        3.  Sarah Anne LOOP, b. September 25, 1845, in PA, and d. January 2, 1866, and is buried Sewickley Presbyterian Cemetery, Westmoreland County, PA.

+        4.  Margaret Bear LOOP, b. February 19, 1847, in PA, m. Presley WILSON. She d. November 7, 1942, in Monongahela, Washington County, PA. She is buried with her sister Martha in West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, Westmoreland County, PA.

+        5.  David McLAIN. LOOP, b. about 1848 in PA. He m. Emma, surname unknown, near 1880. She was born March 25, 1855. She d. March 29, 1896, and is buried in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, Paddytown, Somerset County, PA. They had children:

a.    Henry Oscar LOOP, b. in July, 1879, in PA. He m. Edna F. TRESSLER, after 1920. She was b. December 12, 1897, in PA, the daughter of Harvey TRESSLER and Mary DAVIS. She was b. abt. 1898, in PA. She d. June 20, 1985. They lived in Pitcairn, Allegheny County, PA. They had a son:

i.    David McLain LOOP, b. January 19, 1929, in PA. He was a AETM2 in the US Navy in WWII. He m. (1) Margie M. MITCHELL, September 16, 1967, in Orange County, CA. He m. (2) Marion F. WILCOT or FLOWERS (prob. one a maiden name and one a previous marriage name), in San Bernadino, CA, August 22, 1981. He d. April 7, 2007, in San Diego County, CA, and is buried in the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.

b.    Martha E. LOOP, b. in May, 1881, in PA.

c.    Ira B. LOOP, b. in May, 1891, in PA.

c.    William LOOP, b. in August 18, 1893, in PA, and d. September 2, 1895. He is buried in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, Paddytown, Somerset County, PA.

d.    David E. LOOP, b. in May20, 1896, in PA, d. there May 26, 1896. He is buried in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, Paddytown, Somerset County, PA.

+        6.  Barbara Ellen LOOP, b. about March, 1850, in PA. She d. August, 1851.

+        7.  Cyrus M. LOOP, b. 1852, in PA. He m. Carrie TIMMS, daughter of William P. and Margery TIMMS. She was b. abt 1860, in PA. They were living with her parents in 1880, in Rostraver, Westmoreland County, PA. He d. in 1882, and is buried in Olive Branch Cemetery, North Belle Vernon, Westmoreland County, PA.

+        8.  Henry Albert LOOP, b. near February 15, 1853 (calculated), in PA. He d. October 19, 1855. He's buried in Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Yukon, Westmoreland County, PA.

+        8.  Keziah C. LOOP, b. about 1855, in PA.

+        9.  Samuel C. LOOP, b. January 30, 1857, in Sewickley Twp., Westmoreland County, PA, m. (1) March 11, 1880, Emily H. EICHER, of Somerset County, PA. She was b. February 27, 1862, and d. April 21, 1886. He m. (2) December 2, 1886, Edith S. McLAIN. She was b. May 13, 1860, in South Huntington Twp., Westmoreland County, PA. She d. there August 14, 1922. He d. November 27, 1931, in Sewickley Twp., Westmoreland County, PA.

+     10.  William C. LOOP, b. about 1859, in PA.

+     11.  Rainhart L. LOOP, b. in 1860, in PA, d. before 1870.

+     12.  Emma G. LOOP, b. February 11, 1867, d. March 12, 1895, in PA. She is buried in Sewickley Presbyterian Cemetery, Yukon, Westmoreland County, PA.

Samuel C. LOOP [Henry(2), Henry(1)] the seventh child of Henry LOOP and Elizabeth COUCHENOUR was born January 30, 1857, in Sewickley Twp., Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He married (1) March 11, 1880, Emily H. EICHER, of Somerset County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of William EICHER and Mary CUNNINGHAM. She was born February 27, 1862, and died April 21, 1886. He married (2) December 2, 1886, Edith McLAIN. She was born May 13, 1860, the daughter of Abner McLAIN of Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. She died August 14, 1922. He was a farmer, dairyman and livestock dealer. He died or poisoning on November 27, 1931, in Sewickley Twp., Westmoreland County, PA. He and his wives are all buried there at Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The children of Samuel C. LOOP and Emily H. EICHER were:

+        1.  Willis W. LOOP, served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp for 14 months.

+        2.  James Franklin LOOP, b. May 25, 1882, in Sewickley County, PA. In 1942 he is described as 5' 5", 168 pounds, gray eyes, gray hair, ruddy hair. He m. (1) Alice C., surname unknown, abt. 1908. She was b. abt. 1885, in PA, and d. before 1920 when James is listed as a widower. He m. (2) Laura, surname unknown, before 1930. James Franklin and Alice C. LOOP had children:

a.   Samuel F. LOOP, b.1907, in PA. He m. Edna, surname unknown, abt. 1933. She was b. in 1912, d. 1983. He d. in 1984. They are both buried in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntington, Westmoreland County, PA. They had children: Shirley Jean LOOP, b. June 16, 1932, in PA, d. April 14, 1955; Lois LOOP, b. abt. 1938, in PA.

b.    James B. LOOP, b. about 1912, in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntington, Westmoreland County, PA.

c.   William L. LOOP, b. July 17, 1914, in PA. He married Margaret L., surname unknown. She was b. October 23, 1914. He d. January 21, 1970. She d. August 21, 2002. Both are buried in

+        3.  Alice LOOP, lived in McKeesport, Alleghany County, PA, in 1906.

+        4.  Albert Charles LOOP, b. September 25, 1890. He m. Mary Ethel, surname unknown. She was b. November 25, 1902. In 1918 he is listed as short, slender, blue eyes, dark brown hair. In 1942, he is listed as being 5' 7", 130 pounds, gray eyes, gray hair, ruddy complexion. He d. September, 1967, in West Newton, Westmoreland County, PA. She d. September 24, 1993, in McKeesport, Allegheny County, PA. Both are buried in West Newton, Westmoreland County, PA. They had children:

a.    Norman B. LOOP, b. in 1921, in PA. He m. Estella, surname unknown. She was b. abt. 1925. He d. 1986. Both are buried in Eutsey Cemetery, Fayette County, PA.

b.    Charles LOOP, b. about 1925, in PA.

c.    Paul LOOP, b. about 1928, in PA.
