CHAPTER 24 -- Albert Loop of Switzerland

Albert LOOP ^[notes] [John Joseph(1)] was born July 3, 1838, in Tscherlach, Berne Canton, Switzerland, the son of John Joseph LOOP and Mari, surname unknown. He came to the United States about 1856. He served in Co's F and I 28 Ohio from June 13, 1861, until his unit was mustered out, July 23, 1864. He is described as five feet six and one half inches tall, sound complexion, grey eyes, sandy hair, and a laborer. He received gunshot wounds to the wrist at Piedmont, West Virginia, to the lungs at New Hope, Virginia, and to the nose in another engagement. He married March 2, 1868, Barbara SCHUNGLE, in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. She was born April 1, 1849, in Cincinnati, the daughter of Frederick SCHUNGLE, a prosperous farmer. That same year they moved to Mitchell County, Kansas. Albert LOOP died July 20, 1918, in Asherville, Mitchell County, Kansas. She died July 8, 1934, in Beloit, Mitchell County, Kansas. Both are buried in Beloit, Mitchell County, Kansas. The children of Albert LOOP and Barbara SCHUNGLE were:

+ 1. Frederick Charles LOOP, b. October 11, 1868, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. (1) Ruth McKIM. She was b. about 1874, and d. October 11, 1897. She is buried at the Mitchell County Cemetery, Cawker City, KS. He m. (2) Ada SIMPSON. The latter was b. April 23, 1878. He was living in Eugene, OR, in 1928. She d. November 16, 1932. He d. May 27, 1946 in Eugene, Lane County, OR. He had children:

a. Mable LOOP, who m. Mr. BOYLES.

b. Cyril LOOP, b. May 6, 1906, d. January 23, 1910. He is buried at the Mitchell County Cemetery, Cawker City, KS, or the Simpson Cemetery, Simpson, Mitchell County, KS..

+ 2. John Joseph LOOP (twin), b. March 29, 1870, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. Lula Belle WYLIE (twin to wife of child 5 below). She was b. May 22, 1874. He d. July 11, 1908, in Holton, Jackson County, KS, and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Mitchell County, KS. She d. August 7, 1948, and is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Glendale, Los Angeles County, CA. They had children:

a. John LOOP. Probably d. young.

b. Eva M. LOOP, b. November 17, 1897, in Oneida, Nemaha Couny, KS. She m. Alfred L. KELSO. He was b. abt 1905, in Nebraska. In 1930 they were living in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA. They had a son Wylie Eugene KELSO, b. November 30, 1926, in Los Angeles County, CA. He was a Korean war era veteran. He d. March 15, 2001, and is buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery, in Los Angeles, CA.

+ 3. George Martin LOOP (twin), b. March 29, 1870, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, d. young.

+ 4. George Martin LOOP, b. June 20, 1871, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. October 1, 1896, Etta May McCLURE. He d. August 27, 1938, in Hardy, Nuckolls County, NE.

+ 5. Arnold Eugene LOOP, b. October 30, 1872, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. June 5, 1901, Lena May WYLIE (twin to wife of child 2 above). She was b. 1874 in Atchison, Atchison County, KS, the daughter of William H. WYLIE and Pheobe GISH. He graduated from Campbell University in Holton, KS, and was a teacher and superintendent of schools for Mitchell County, KS. She d. August, 25, 1848. He d. December 31, 1957. Both are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Mitchell County, KS. They had a daughter:

a. Marie LOOP, worked for General Motors in Oklahoma City, OK, and m. Waldo J. BASHAW.

+ 6. Peter William LOOP, b. May 9, 1874, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. Kittie CRECIAN. She was b. November 4, 1891. He d. May 2, 1949. He went by William. He was a farmer in Mitchell County in 1928. She d. February 9, 1961. Both are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Mitchell County, KS. They had children:

a. Clifford H. LOOP, b. about 1911, in Benoit, Mitchell County, KS. He served in WWII. He m. Bernice NELSON, daughter of Swan NELSON.

b. Ivan James LOOP.

+ 7. Clara Dell LOOP, b. August 8, 1876, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. September 6, 1899, in Asherville, Oscar Douglas HOTCHKISS. He was b. August 4, 1859. She d. July 29, 1908. She is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Mitchell County, KS. He d. March 12, 1947. They had children Hazel HOTCHKISS and Orrin HOTCHKISS.

+ 8. Altha May LOOP, b. December 21, 1877/8, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. August 16, 1899, Elmer Ellsworth FISHER. He was of Stockton, Rocks County, KS, in 1928. She d. May 11, 1965.

+ 9. Mary Ida LOOP, b. December 21, 1878, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS. She d. unmarried November 25, 1900.

+ 10. Edward Franklin LOOP, b. June 18, 1881, in Asherville Mitchell County, KS, m. Bitha MASTERS. She was b. abt. 1883, in IA, the daughter of William Lindsey MASTERS and Rachel Ellen GUMP. He was a farmer near Seymour, Wayne County, Iowa, in 1928. He d. January 10, 1947. Then had a daughter:

a. Kathryn Shirly LOOP, b. abt. 1922, in IA, m. Harold Kenneth McELVAIN. He was born April April 20, 1919, in Jerome, Appanoose County, IA. She d. November 18, 1970, in Rochester, MN. He d. May 3, 1998, in Corydon, Wayne County, IA. They had 5 children: Virginia, Kenneth, Marvin, Karen, and David McELVAIN.

+ 11. Effie Grace LOOP, b. September 4, 1884, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. Joseph M. CAVENDER. They lived in Asherville in 1928. She d. January 4, 1936.

+ 12. James Albert LOOP, b. November 29, 1888, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS, m. Nancy MASTERS. In 1917 his draft registration describes him as living in Asherville, KS, single, brown eyes, dark brown hair, tall, and of medium build. He m. abt. 1920, Nancy Ellen MASTERS, the daughter of William L. MASTERS and Rachel Ellen GUMP. She was b. July 27. 1893, in Walnut Township, County, IA. They were residents of Lawrence, Douglas County, KS, in 1925, where he was a custodian at Pinckney School.. He d. July, 1994. They apparently had no children.

+ 13. Minnie Effa LOOP, b. June 4, 1891, d. September 5, 1891.

+ 14. Nettie Alice LOOP, b. March 7, 1893, m. March 4, 1912, William Lee SENTER, in Asherville, Mitchell County, KS. She d. December 12, 1942, in Stockton, Rooks County, KS. They were of Graham County, KS, in 1928. He d. September 8, 1975. They are buried together in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit, Mitchell County, KS.

a. Marjorie Lee SENTER, b. October 16, 1924, in Beloit, Mitchell County, KS. She m. October, 1944, Emmette Wayne FARR. He was b. October 26, 1925. He d. January 7, 2007. She d. December 15, 2010, of Alzheimer's disease. They are buried together in Red Oak Cemetery, Red Oak, Ellis County, TX. They had a daughter Gail FARR b. in October, 1949.

George Martin LOOP [Albert(2), John Joseph(1)] the fourth child of Albert LOOP and Barbara SCHUNGLE was born June 20, 1871, in Asherville, Mitchell County, Kansas. He married Etta May McCLURE on October 1, 1896. She was born March 3, 1877, in Mitchell County, Kansas, the daughter of David McCLURE and Margrett DALTON. He died August 27, 1938, in Hardy, Nuckolls County, Nebraska, and is buried there. She then married Fred WORLEY. She died August 12, 1958 (1948 according to her gravestone), in Superior, Nuckolls County, and is buried, along with George M. LOOP, in Hardy City Cemetery, Hardy, Nuckolls County, Nebraska. The children of George Martin LOOP and Etta May McCLURE were:

+ 1. Orville James LOOP, b. September 8, 1897, in Scottsville, Mitchell County, KS, and d. July 8, 1974. He m. Mary Cecilia BECKER. She was b. abt. 1895, in Nebraska.

a. Clara Berenice LOOP, b. October 22, 1923, in Nebraska. She m. Donald Clarence BURKMAN. They both served in the US Army. She d. April 7, 1993.

a. Elizabeth Jane (Betty) LOOP, b. August 26, 1925 in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska. She m. Ignatius F. HARTUNG. She d. October 1, 2006, in Aberdeen, Brown County, SD.

+ 2. Earl Lloyd LOOP, b. April 26, 1899, in Scottsville, Mitchell County, KS, d. June 24, 1954. He m. Mabel WILKENS. She was b. 1898, in KS, and d. in 1982. They are buried together in Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, Dundy County, Nebraska. They had children:

a. Benjamin James LOOP, b. April 13, 1926, in Cheyenne County, KS. He d. February 26, 2011, at Hillcrest Care Center, Wray, CO. He is buried in Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, Dundy County, Nebraska.

b. Alvin R. LOOP, b. June 22, 1927, in KS. He m. Mary Elizabeth HOLLENBECK. She was b. September 22, 1931, in Nebraska, the daughter of Matthew and Mildred HOLLENBECK. She d. January 12, 1988, in Kearney, Buffalo County, Nebraska. They had children:

i. David LOOP.

ii. Steven LOOP.

iii. Mark LOOP.

iv. Jean LOOP. She m. Bill JACKSON.

c. Mary LOOP, b. abt. 1829, in KS.

d. Leo J. LOOP, b. April 3, 1930, in KS. He m. Mary Aidyl STOHLER. She was b. June 8, 1940. He d. July 18, 1984, and is buried in Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, Dundy County, Nebraska. They had children:

i. Andrew Joe LOOP, b. May 30, 1965, in Oakley, KS. He was a truck driver. He d. July 15, 2005, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, North Platte, Nebraska.

ii. Sarah LOOP. She m. Mr. MORSE.

iii. Lydia LOOP. She m. John LENHART of Roscoe, Nebraska.

iv. Mary LOOP.

v. Veronica LOOP.

vi. Earl LOOP. He m. Beth, surname unknown.

vii. Patrick LOOP.

viii. Paul LOOP. He m. Kathy, surname unknown.

ix. Frank LOOP. He m. Kelly HARMS.

x. Gabriel LOOP. He m. Brittany, surname unknown.

e. Lloyd A. LOOP, b. August 30, 1931, in KS. He served in the US Navy in Korea. He d. May 7, 1993. He is buried in Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, Dundy County, Nebraska.

+ 3. Guy Albert LOOP, b. October 31, 1902, in Scottsville, Mitchell County, KS. He m. Alice Juliette CLARK in Nelson Sept. 15, 1926. She was b. February 9, 1903, in Formoso, Jewell County, KS, the daughter of Itho Rae CLARK and Ada Lenore BUCKLEY. He d. January 6, 1994, in Superior Nuckolls County, Nebraska. She d. September 12, 1998, at Superior, Nuckolls County, Nebraska. Both are buried in Rose Mound Cemetery, Republic County, KS. They had children:

a. Norman Guy LOOP, b. January 16, 1928, in Nebraska. He m. October 13, 1948, Lorene D. STENSON. She was b. December 22, 1927. He d. August 14, 2007. They are buried in Hardy City Cemetery, Hardy, Nuckolls County, Nebraska.

b. Joline M. LOOP, b. abt. 1936, in Nebraska. She m. Daryl ALLINGTON.

c. Jimmie Alan LOOP, b. May 24, 1939, in Nebraska. He m. June 8, 1968, Marcia LEEGE. They divorced. He d. October 16, 2009, in Nebraska. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nuckolls County, Nebraska. They had children:

+ 4. Helen May LOOP, b. May 26, 1905, in Scottsville, Mitchell County, KS, m. (1) Stillman Floyd FISHER, May 21, 1929, at Hardy, Nuckolls County, KS. He was b. August 28, 1894, at Keya Paha, Keya Paha County, NE. She d. December 8, 1965, in Ogallala, Keith County, NE. She had children:

a. Garold Eugene FISHER, b. October 9, 1933, at Twin Falls, Twin Falls, ID
